Monica’s phone rang the second she got home. “How was your date? Tell me all the details!” Amanda said when she answered.

“It was a bust. I’m sure the guy’s a bit psycho. Are you ready to go out clothes shopping for your big date on Saturday?”

“Yep. Do you want me to come pick you up?”

“Sure.”

“I’m sorry I won’t be around Saturday night. What are you going to do?”

Saturday, Saturday, whatever will I do Saturday night without my best friend to hang out with? Oh, I know. I’ll go lurk at the back of the pub and watch Seth strip again. “Just stay in and read a book, more than likely. My to-be-read pile is through the roof.”

“Hey, how about going out with the girls from the office again? You could go anywhere other than Woody O’Flanagan’s,” she said with a laugh.

“Yeah, I’ll ask around and see if they want to go out,” Monica said.

“Great! I’ll be there in twenty minutes to pick you up. Okay?”

Monica was still stuck on Amanda’s suggestion.

“Mon?” she asked after the silence went on too long. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah. Yeah. I was just reading something. Okay, twenty minutes? See you then.”

She hung up and got ready to go back out, wondering what she could say to Seth about her “hot date” that wouldn’t be a lie. The answer was pretty much nothing.
